JVC FORCE Reunited, Releases First New Singles In Two Decades!

The Legendary Hip-Hop group JVC FORCE has officially reunited and releases new music on their newly launch website, http://www.jvcforce.com/. With so much written on various websites and their music being posted everywhere from youtube, to facebook and every blog in between, JVC FORCE knew it was time. They had to find away to correct all the misrepresented information including the definition to the groups’ acronym. Everyone has been talking, now the Force launches their official website to take back control and finally tell their-story.

In a bold move, JVC FORCE decided not to sign with a record company or go through a distributor, but instead release their own music exclusively on their website. The first new tracks, ‘Bang Out’ and ‘People Start Dancin’ are available immediately and new tracks will be available for fans to purchase every 60 days, including rare remixes, new music and previously unreleased songs as well. The website will also include classic and rare pictures of the group, interviews and more for starters and in the near future exclusive JVC FORCE merchandise. Now nothing is off limits…The sky’s the limit!

The reunion officially came about when the group did their first interview together in over fifteen years on December 29, 2007 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their radio debut. B Luv and Curt Cazal joined JVC’s other emcee, AJ Rok for an exclusive interview on his Heavy Rotation Magazine Radio Show, on www.TheBestJams.com. The last weekend of December was very significant because it marked 20 years since DJ Red Alert premiered JVC FORCE’s first single, the Long Island anthem ‘Strong Island’ on his long-running World Famous Radio Mix Show on New York City’s WRKS 98.7 Kiss FM. TBJ founder and CEO Brother John proclaimed December 29, 2007 ‘JVC Force Day,’ and dedicated the entire day to the JVC FORCE.

During the interview the group announced they were officially reunited and hinted that new music might follow shortly. Fans across the globe have been anxiously awaiting ever since. People were starting to speculate if it was really going to happen, this time. Rumors of the group’s reunion had been going on for the last 2 decades. In 1986, Bill ‘B Luv’ Taylor and Curtis ‘Curt Cazal’ Smalls were both DJs in Long Island, former rivals who brought their crews together under the name JVC Force. AJ ‘AJ Rok’ Woodson, who had relocated to Mount Vernon from Long Island, would hear about the noise the two were making in his hometown and dropped by a party to check them out. Ok I think I’ve been quiet long enuf! What’s with all the LeBron James hating! I said I wasn’t gonna say nuthin, but after watching jersey burning fans on the news, reading all the comments on twitter, facebook and everywhere else people can possibly have an opinion, I just couldn’t keep it to myself any longer!!!!!! I have read and heard everyone else, now here goes my 3 ½ cents on the matter, welcome to another long over due AJ ROK Rant!!!!!

First off, most of the comments have no validity! At least know what you are talking about before you run ya mouth all over the world wide web! And to all you bandwagon fans looking for the next superstar to pledge ya undenying love and support to as long as he wins this year, Lebron on Miami Heat with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh even with Pat Riley pulling the strings and backseat coaching does not guarantee the Heat will win 3 out of the next 5 championships and be the newest dynasty! With that said I am rooting for them but just know they gonna have to go out and get that, aint no one laying down for them!

THE IDIOT OF THE WEEK AWARD

Oh yeah and before I forget the Idiot of The Week Award goes to majority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Daniel "Dan" Gilbert for his open letter to the fans regarding Lebron going to Miami! Now like I said his mere presence on the Heat don’t make them champions but if history has shown us how LeBron responds to ignorance like your ‘open letter’ Mr. Gilbert, you have inspired LeBron James to do whatever to win one in South Beach in year one! Lets be straight you mad he left you for a better situation before you could trade him for a better situation. I hope you make better business decisions at ya day job as the Chairman and Founder of Quicken Loans Inc. and Rock Financial. Cause that was the bonehead move of the month!!!!!! Can you say Sore-Loser!!!!!! Gilbert is also the owner of Fathead company that makes life-size vinyl wall graphics of professional athletes and cartoon characters that retail for $50-$100. Well Dan has cut the cost of LeBron's Fatheat to $17.41, the year most notorious traitors in American history, Benedict Arnold was born! Great marketing stradegy of how you can milk LBJ's image for a few extra dollars now that he is gone!!!!

The Decision got everyone talking, I have heard and read so much about this program. Even NBC Sports wrote a piece of their site titled, Was LeBron special ESPN's deal with devil? Could that be some str8 hate because of the staggering Nielsen ratings, sounds like jealousy to me. I wonder if it would have been all good if it aired on NBC, things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm!
Ok so King James held a one hour press conference to announce his choice and sold exclusive rights to air it on ESPN! What amazed me most is damn near everyone who had something to say didn’t miss a minute of The Decision! Now if you command that much attention, what’s wrong with what he did? And I can’t get mad that he had the business sense enough to make a deal with ESPN for exclusivity, and get them to give up all proceeds from the commercials to the Boy’s & Girl’s Clubs of America. They complaining about how he only thinking about himself and don’t care about nobody else, but he turned your curiosity to millions of dollars to organizations that save madd youths lives each year! He did more than the communities of the six cities he was considering than their own people! Don’t get madd people that even your beloved Kobe aint pull off nuthin like that!!! Frankly I would have waited for the you tube clips of the Kobe press conf, ya heard!!!!!!

THE CITY OF CLEVELAND GETS THE GAS FACE!!!

I feel the pain and emotions of the city of Cleveland, I mean you aint had a champion since Jim Brown and damn that was what like 50 years ago. But come on, I mean is it that serious? We are talking about a professional basketball player not a congressman, or mayor or state representative, but an athlete! Yes one of your own, will be one of the greatest and probably his mere presence put a certain amount of dollar bills in the economy. It’s alright to be hurt, but is that how you treat one of your own, who wants to do better for himself and his family! He may have literally had the entire city on his shoulders but seriously he is a basketball player, a damn good one, but just a basketball player, who an NBA team and entire city looked to for leadership at the age of 18! It’s been seven years, how many players have held it down for seven years in one city! Burning the jerseys and almost rioting are ridiculous. Like Bone Thugs N Harmony he will always be singing ‘Cleveland is the city that we come from, Cleveland is the city- City that we come from’ but for real now there’s a remix, Miami is the city where we won, where we won!

This is where this man is from, Cleveland, where his family lives, it had to be a hard decision, but sometime to get what we want we gotta leave home, ya heard, So don’t hate the player for moving and wanting to win. For all his real fans, friends and family in Cleveland he is ‘gonna miss everybody [He’s] gonna miss everybody, And to Dan Gilbert, ‘(So you won't be lonely)

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – BIG CITY OF DREAMS

Aight everyone who knows me knows I’m a diehard New York Knicks fan, yes I said it out loud! Even when your team gives you nuthin to cheer about real fans don’t bail on their team. Now that said lets be real what did the Knicks have to offer LeBron for comin to New York. Madison Avenue, cool, a mega media city cool, but what about the possibility to, as he put it, win now and later, hmmmmm. Think if we are real, NY we fell a little short there! And to boo this brother at Carmelo Anthony’s wedding, what’s that all about? You only made him wanna torch the Knicks every time he steps foot in the worlds most famous arena!!!!! It would have been nice but lets be real Jordan and others thru New York’s name up as well to get their teams to come out their pocket or make others dig deeper, so don’t hate Lebron for playing the game, hate the game!!!! And let’s be real New Yorkers are the hardest on our professional athletes, ya love and ya
hate em in the same breath! Who wanna come to all that especially since the Knicks didn’t have all their pieces and are 40 years removed from their last ring!

HOW WILL LEBRON JAMES BE REMEMBERED?

Will he go down in history as one of the greatest to play the game? Will he get multiple rings in South Beach? Will this turn out to be the single greatest move or biggest mistake in his career? Hmmmm, only time will tell. But one thing I do know if he stayed in Cleveland, Lebron James goes down in history as a King with no Ring!!!!! Everyone may not agree with me, but like that title said you can hate me know, but I’m telling the truth!!!!!!! All I’m saying is let Lebron live. In am era where you don’t have franchises anymore cause of free agency, lets not forget teams who dump roll players a month after winning a championship (remember Robert Horry and Sam Casell in Houston, just to name one example). You can’t get mad at a brother who got in front of the game and made a move he thought was best for him and his family! A Call to Men is an organization that is working hard to educate boys and men about manhood, and to present solutions to end all forms of men's violence against women. Become a part of this movement by registering today.

5 Reasons why you should attend Stand Up - Speak Out:

1. You are a non-abusive man and do not condone men's violence against women.

2. You love and respect women.

3. You have a mother, sister, daughter, aunt, or grandmother and love them.

Lately people have been asking me how I managed to maintain in the what-have-you-done-lately business of Hip-Hop for 20 years. What drives me to continually put in work year after year, especially with the current state of hip-hop, as a rapper, writer/ journalist, a professional hip-hop junkie that has now added author to his extensive resume?

Why do I keep doin’ may part to preserve the culture and document the history, when it seems like no one cares? The simple answer is I love hip-hop but like Chris Rock said is last HBO special, it’s getting harder and harder to defend it.

I Do love hip-hop, I still believe in it and what it has been and can be again. In its purest form, in its essence hip-hop can uplift, encourage and educate as well as entertain a new generation as well and the world. So I carry the weight and hold it down for hip-hop even when some of my peers appear to be in it for what they can get out of it.

Now don’t get it twisted I am not advocating all the negative imagery being force-fed to our youth on major radio stations and video shows. The negative images make us look bad as a people, while many of those who brag and boast of how bad they are, livin’ out the gangsta fantasies.

Many of the very ones give it to you raw or real as they put it are the very ones who ain't got the heart to speak what’s truly in their hearts but cave in to the corporations that pimp them. How ironic is it that the so called studio pimps are really the ones being pimped, cause when their usefulness to over they are discarded like the morning trash.

Everyone who says they are down for hip-hop arne't always willin' to do what it takes to take it to the next level. We have always been a people that take whats given to us and flipping it for our benefit. It's time we take hip-hop back!

This is for my real hip-hop heads that put in work year after year. That make a difference who dare to be different, lead instead of following played out and over done trends! For the founding members who paid the price and drew up the blueprint for many with no sense of history or respect for the originals to eat and eat well.

I do it for them, for Flash, Bam, Herc, CC4, T3, F4, Funky 4 + 1, Crash Crew, for KRS, MC Lyte, Chuck D, for those who have lived and died for Hip Hop! I do it for them. I do it for you,I do it for Hip-Hop and like Puff, ma and everyone like me Will Never Stop and like KRS We Will Be Here FOREVER! We Will never go anywhere!

For the fans that appreciate real hip-hop around the world. The artists whose voice are never heard cause they refuse to dumb it down, and do whatever everyone else is doin' All my real Hip0-Hop Heads STAND UP!

For you I keep puttin' in work. Cause It does make SENSE even when it doesn't make dollars. For them, For you, For me.... I Do It For Da People! I DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome all of those who have come thru and checked out and supported my blog and allowed me to run my mouth, share with you new music, books, movies that I think are relevant or just vent and rant on something that's bothering me and allowing me to simply get something off my chest.

With everything goin' on right now and the season of change we are in right now, We have a Black President, I have a new book, God has blessed me with a beautiful new woman in my life and we are all in a transitional period of change I figured it was as good a time as any to give my blog a make over and rededicate myself to it.

SPIRITUAL MINDED MAGAZINE- its been three months

Three months ago to the day, I was inspired to start a social network for the Spiritual Minded. Sort of a myspace type site thru the Ning Network where Spiritual Minded folk could go and chill together without all the bs you would find on say a myspace.

At first the task seemed to be a major undertaking but once I got it goin and invited a few friends the word really got out there. Now I have about 170 members from all over the world. Places like The Netherlands, Australia, Germany, The Bahama, Jamaica, The U.K and of course everywhere in the U.S. and everywhere in between!
The site originally was a way to promote my new Spiritual Minded Devotional book series. The first book just came of on election day called Spiritual Minded- Da Daily Devotion For The Hip-Hop Generation. The book is a way to inspire, encourage and uplift people thru the medium of hip-hop and possibly introduce a few to Christ who don't know Him for themselves and have a personal relationship with him.
What started out as a cool idea to promote and spread the word about my book, quickly grow into a great source of inspiration for alot of Spiritual Minded people and a place where Christain artists (singers, rappers, spoken word artists and DJs), Authors and others could come thru and promote their projects for free, and chill online with others and discuss spiritual matters, in a fun way, hear some good music and share a testimony!
Being a freelance writer for over 15 years and tired of chasing down publications for my check and building up everyone elses dreams, I decided to make the social network into my own magazine of sorts.
A place I could post entertainment news, reviews, interviews etc and a site for my newest online radio show all in one place! In addition to having a place to promote my book, where people could come read a preview and purchase it.
While I won't front like I have tens of thousands of people coming thru daily or even weekly, the site is taking on a life of its own and alot has happened in over the past 3 months. I just wanted to share this with anyone out there who may be interested in how to better get the word out about a particular project you may be working. Even our new president Barack Obama reached the people and got the word out thru the new media out there with his personal blog. He used sites like twitter, facebook and myspace to get the word out on what his campaign was based on. We are living in a bold new world, where anyone can reach the world from their living room.

You ever doubt yourself because of your shortcomings? This is a common thing. Are you constantly reliving the mistakes of your past and preventing yourself from success in the future? Maybe you have a limited education, you have a jail record, your family is poor, and people have messed over you all your life? Now that the economy is slow and everything you used to do as a side hustle has dried up it hard to eat these days.

Whatever has held you back in the past doesn’t have to limit where you go from this point on. The good news is you can move past the scars of yesterday. God never consults your past to determine your future. So stop looking at where you have been and start looking at where you are going. Stop advertising your pain. Creflo Dollar and Eddie Long among 6 televangelist being investigated by the senate

Its been a minute since my last rant. There have been so many things going on that I have kept quiet on but when I came home tonight and heard about Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is investigating six prominent televangelist ministries for possible financial misconduct.
I found it very interesting that after turning to all three major stations nightly news, when they led into the story they only showed Creflo Dollar of World Changers International and Eddie Long of New Birth Ministries. I watch the coverage on CBS and they mention six prominent televangelist but never once mention who the other 4 were. I gave them the benefit of the doubt since both Dollar and Long head mega churches in Atlanta, but when I watch other channels and the only two named and shown, actually prominently featured in the piece were the 2 black televangelists.
I actually had to go online to CBSnews.com to find out the other four televangelist being targeted in this investigation. There names are Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn, all white.
ABC only show both Long and Dollar in their tease during primetime to get folks to watch.
Im not even defending Creflo Dollar and Eddie Long, I actually don't know all the facts, but they should be considered innocent into proven other wise. I'm just dealing with the uneven exposure of these two of six that are being targeted and the fact the both are black and the other four are not.
I just find it interested that the two black preachers are the ones prominently featured in the news coverage and the names of the white preachers were even mention on television. Yes their names are posted on the website, but by not mentioning them by name and showing them and their churches on television as was done with Long and Dollar, which is where the majority of the people will come in contact tonight with story.
What kind of message does this send to the public. When you have a lot of white people sitting home watching the news and you only cover the black televangelist.
Am I making too much of this, you be the judge. Was this the way it was in the rest of the country, please holla back!

Min. Louis Farrakhan Says T.I. Set Up In Upcoming Speech

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is calling on the Hip-Hop community, gangs and youth in general to hear a message titled "Justifiable Homicide: The Attack On Black Youth."
Minister Farrakhan will give the speech at the Mosque Maryam in Chicago Illinois, where he will address the recent arrests of various rappers like T.I. and Lil' Wayne,
"T.I. was set up and they are trying with Lil' Wayne," Minister Farrakhan told AllHipHop.com.
For those who cannot attend Minister Farrakhan's speech in person, the message will be shown live via webcast, in over 120 cities across the nation and in specific parts of the world.
Minister Farrakhan's speech "Justifiable Homicide: The Attack On Black Youth" starts tomorrow morning at 11:00 am.
In addition to T.I. And Lil' Wayne, Minister Farrakhan will also touch on the Jena 6, Michael Vick in Virginia the overwhelming gang violence which plagues many American cities.

Son Of Rap Legend KRS-ONE, Found Dead In Atlanta Apartment.

After a long battle with depression...Randy Hubbard Parker, son of Simone G. Parker and Rap Legend KRS-ONE was found dead in his Atlanta apartment on Friday, July 6th.
The Fulton County Atlanta Medical Center lists the cause of death as a suicide from a gunshot wound to the head. Randy was 23 years old. A private memorial service will be held in Florida on July 18, 2007 (Randy’s 24th Birthday). Plans for an August memorial service in New York are underway.

Simone G. Parker, wife of Rap legend KRS-One cites “severe depression” as the motivating cause for Randy’s sudden death. He was 23. Randy Parker was born at Elmhurst hospital in 1983 in Queens New York. Randy, a graphic designer and fashion entrepreneur, was seeking employment in the Atlanta area of Georgia.

Chillin’ in my office in the crib on the Fourth of July tryna take advantage of the day to clean up and organize things. So I could get in the mood, I turn on Direct TV to the XM Radio channels. They got this one channel called, ‘The Rhyme’ where they play all kinds of old school hip-hop 24 hours a day. Nothing against the commercial radio but I’m not only old school at noon so I needed to hear some good ol’ hip hop, today while I cleaned up.

I also made up my mind, that today I’m gonna start writing a little something everyday. I really haven't been writing at all the last few months or so, and I have so much stuff in my head, it feels like it gonna explode sometimes if I don’t get it out. It gets to a point where no one seems to comprehend me when I try to verbally express myself which frustrates the hell of out me. So you don’t say anything and just keep it in, which my doctor just informed me was no good for my health but that’s another story.

Anyway I open a new document in Microsoft Word and stare at the blinking curser and nuthin’ is comin’ out like the last dozen or so times. I get sidetracked and end up playing my Aces and Kings, a variation of Solitaire, the perferred form of procrastination of the day. I basically was ready to except I tried and nothing came out again as an excuse when all of a sudden the words, “I Got So Much Funky Shit Inside My Brian, I Couldn't Explain, Couldn't Explain. You Probably Wouldn’t Understand, I Couldn't Explain," comes out of my surround speakers of my TV.

The words are from an old Jungle Brothers joint titled "Brain," that came out in 1994. It wasn’t one of their most popular joints but it totally fit the situation. I'm kinda just staring at the TV like damn. While I can relate with the lyrics of alot of joints, this just seem to fit my current situation and came in like the background of a movie they play to explain to the viewer what's going on in the characters mind. The words repeat again.

Then Mike G kicks the first verse off with, "Explanation of the funk essential trapped in my brain, Couldn't do it, make me wonder how a world maintain..." and before I realize it, my fingers started dancing across the keyboard of my laptop. Wasn’t like I was particularly writing anything of any importance to anyone else, but it didn’t matter cause I was writing again and it was like my version of waiting to exhale, finally I can breath again and it felt oh so good, to just exhale.

I have madd stories inside my head, when I don't get them out the just continue to build and build. Sometimes its like goin' thru all 350 plus channels, one after the other and not being able to find anything to watch. It starts to get all jumbled up and become one big blur. That's how my thoughts and ideas get when I can't get it out til it feels like my head is going to explode. So to merely say I need to write is an understatement. It's way beyond something I extremely enjoy. It's beyond people feeling what I write. It's downright therapeutic and basically what I need to do just to hold on to my sanity.

I don’t know if any of you out there can’t relate, but that’s why instead of tryna expain it anymore, I'm writing this entry in my journal. Some will eventually feel what Im saying and some never will, but as long as I get it out it doesnt matter if anyone sees it or even feels it. I have been like that since I was a child. My mom would put me on punishment and send me to my room and I would write, read and draw. How do you punish a kid who is reading and writing, tell him to stop? Eventually my mom would get frustrated with me and tell me to go outside and play.

It's funny how music can take you back to a moment in time, remind you where you were, who you were with and what you were doing when the song came out. It also can just open up an array of emotions and for me thanx to the Subsonic Radio show on XM Radio and The Jungle Brothers, my current writers block is broken and now the words are just pouring out. I Got So Much Funky Shit Inside My Brain, its about time I write it down and get it out.

With that said I'm just gonna end with Afrika's verse cause it sums up what I have been feeling!

Kobe- The Best in the league right now????

Now for those who know me before you accuse me of jumping on the band wagon after reading the title please read everything before you judge me! Yes many of you have heard me talk about Kobe not being worthy of all the hype or the fact that I am not actually his biggest fan. As a true sports fan I do give credit where its due.

I still stand by my comments that Kobe is a great player who may not have a ring if he didn't play with Shaq. Alot of Kobe fans act like this dude won those championships by himself, even the great Michael Jordan needed help. As great as Bryant is, he can't beat a team by himself. I have often said if you put another great player and in that position like said a Tracy McGrady, he would have 3 rings and Kobe might be another great player who retires without a championship. Case in point D. Wade did the damn thing with an older, slower Shaq and won the championship last year and Kobe watch the most of the playoffs like I did at home, on a much bigger TV and a nicer home but at home all the same.

Teams need to play him one on one let him get his, and shut everyone else down and you can defeat the Lakers in a 5 or 7 game series. When teams got wise to that even with Shaq there, they went home early. They let Kobe and Shaq get theres and shut the rest of the team down. And lets not forget even when they went home early it was Shaq the only Laker who scored his average during the playoffs when they lost. Kobe was MIA a few games.
I still don't think even with his historical numbers he can take this current band of misfits to the promise land and win another title until he gets another superstar on the roster. (They should have given up Bynum for Jason Kidd before the trade deadline, they may have been true contentders for the next few years. Bynum may neer develop into that type of superstar they need) Anyway like I was saying, while I am not his biggest fan, like I said I do give credit were its due. Even the player I used to hate the most in the 80's, Larry Bird, who just turned 50 years old, looking back on it now I can't deny that man his place in history and what he did for the game. (and for the record I don't feel no where near as strong against Bryant and I did Bird.)
Now with all that said Kobe Bryant quite possible might be the best player in the league right now. He just made history again Friday night (March 23rd) when he 50 points for the fourth straight game during the Lakers' 111-105 victory over the New Orleans Hornets, making him the first player since Chamberlain to accomplish that feat. Bryant has stepped up in a major way and stopped they 7 or 8 game losing streak that if continued could have knocked them out the playoff race.
Kobe who said he met Chamberlain once as a child has scored 65, 50, 60 and 50 points in his past four games for a total of 225 points. While it's not close to Chamberlain's four-game total of 67, 65, 61 and 100 for a total of 293 points during his historic season in 1961-62, no one else has ever done it. And that and that alone makes Kobe Bryant worthy of this rant and the title of this piece. I wont go on and on but see below and check the numbers for yourself. Like Jay Z said, "Men lie, Women lie but numbers don't." The scary thing we may not have seen his best yet!

No longer should anyone be calling Kobe the heir apparent to Air Jordan. There will never be another Jordan but Kobe is doin pretty damn good being Kobe! Its a little to early to say he may be the greatest to ever play but he has carved a place in history that even haters like myself cant deny!!!!

March 23 -- Lakers' guard Kobe Bryant went off for 65 points in a win against the Blazers on March 16, and 50 points on Sunday against the Timberwolves. Kobe followed that up with a 60-point performance in the Lakers' victory over the Grizzlies on Thursday. He continued his hot streak by posting 50 points in a win over the Hornets on Friday. 18,000- Kobe is the youngest player to top this point milestone, reaching it in 28 years and 156 days, which is 10 fewer days than it took Wilt Chamberlain to accomplish this feat.

226 -The amount of points Wilt Chamberlain scored over a three-day stretch (highest amount ever) in 1962.
225- The amount of points Kobe has scored over this four-game span.
100- On March 2, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain set the NBA single-game scoring record by tallying 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169-147 victory over the New York Knicks.
81- On Jan. 22, 2006, Kobe dropped 81 points against the Raptors in a 122-104 Lakers win. The 81 is the second highest single-game point total in NBA history.
65- The amount of points he totaled in the Lakers' 116-111 victory over the Blazers on March 16.
62- On Dec. 20, 2005, Kobe scored 62 points in three quarters against the Mavericks. Heading into the fourth quarter, he had outscored the Mavericks, 62-61.
60- His point total in the Lakers' 121-119 win over the Grizzlies on Thursday.

For all of you who recieved emails today saying Sinbad died from a heart attack, the news is 100 percent not true. Yesterday (Wed, March 14th) somebody altered the comedians Wikipedia page to say the the former Showtime At The Apollo host died of a fatal heart attack. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinbad_(actor) The news soon hit the web via a forwarded email which contained the link to the false news story.
EUR's Lee Bailey has spoken with the a red-haired, freckle-faced comic’s brother and manager, Mark Adkins, who confirms that the former star is most notably remembered for his role as Walter Oakes in The Cosby Show spinoff A Different World, is alive and well (go to Lee Bailey's EUR WEB Listen to phone conversation with Sinbad's brother http://www.eurweb.com/story/eur32124.cfm).
“That was a vicious rumor, I don’t know where it came from, but it started last weekend,” Mark, the head of a promotions company in Los Angeles, told Bailey on the phone Thursday afternoon. “It just started circulating around the country, and today I got more calls than any.”
“On Saturday I started getting a lot of comedians calling me saying that they heard Sinbad had passed away,” Mark continued. “Then it had died down for a couple of days and we thought it was just a little local rumor, but then it went across the country. I got calls from Detroit and New York, radio stations calling. I guess there’s some sort of obituary or something on the e-mail blast that made it seem real.”
Sinbad himself, born David Adkins, is scheduled to speak with Lee Bailey later today. We’ll keep you posted

It had the nerve to be todays Allhiphop.com's news blast of the dayAs the feuds in Hip-Hop seem to be at an all-time high, rock band Nice Peter is currently raising eyebrows because of choice words aimed at superstar rapper 50 Cent in their new song, “50 Cent is a P***y.” In the lighthearted single, the rock band takes jabs at 50 Cent with lyrics like,
“Straight from the streets to the limousine, started off with just his bullet holes and a big dream/ hooked up with Eminem and Dr. Dre, now he’s gotta his own f**king video game. Yeah, b***h what, I’m calling you out/ you’re about as gangster as the chick from No Doubt.”
Consisting of lead singer and acoustic guitarist Pete Shukoff and drummer Kristen Regester, the two-piece band from Chicago insists that their new song shouldn’t be taken too seriously. “We try and poke fun of things and maybe say some things and have some opinions,” Shukoff told AllHipHop.com. “I mean what I say in the song, but I don’t necessarily think 50 Cent is a p***y. I think if I met up with him in a bar, he’d take me out pretty quickly."

MICHAEL RICHARDS CONS PUBLIC;
CONTINUES TO DUCK AND DODGE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS RACIAL RANT

Comedian Michael Richards publicly declared that he would reach out to black leaders and the black community to make amends for his racial tirade. With much public fanfare, he hired Rubenstein Associates Inc., a pricey, well-connected, high profile New York PR firm to burnish his image and sell the notion that he is truly repentant for his racial misdeeds. He went on the safe and cozy confine of Jesse Jackson's national talk radio show to do a kind of, sort of carefully rehearsed mea culpa, and again promised to do much more, up to and including meeting with the two black men that he racially insulted at the Laugh Factory.
I took him up on his offer and formally invited him to appear and participate in a roundtable discussion on Saturday December 2 in Los Angeles with black community leaders, residents, and activists. The discussion would be a frank talk on the impact of the continued use of the N Word and other racially damaging words and terms.
I faxed and emailed my request to Howard Rubenstein, the president of Rubenstein Associates. I was assured in a phone call with a company aide that Rubenstein (and presumably Richards) took very seriously his responsibility to undue the damage that his racial tirade caused. I took this as a good sign of Rubenstein and Richard's sincerity and good faith in wanting to make a bad situation right.
I was wrong. Two days later, I received a polite call from a Rubenstein associate. The gist was that Richards had carefully considered my offer but had decided that he must decline. My assurances that the discussion would be polite, civil and designed to promote understanding were brushed aside.
The brush off, or should I say, duck and dodge by Richards was hardly a surprise. The chest thumping half baked apology he made on the Letterman show a day after his body-in-the mouth spectacle was the first tip that Richards still didn't get it, or worse was a phony. He trotted out the shop worn I am not a racist line that the legion of politicians, celebrities and notables utter when they get nailed for a racist charged crack, gaffe, slip, or flat out put down.
What else would they say? After all, it's not politically correct let alone fashionable to be considered a bigot these days, at least publicly. Even David Duke, the Aryan Nation, Identity, neo-Nazis, Skinheads, the motley menagerie of minor key racist kook, crazies, and zanies and yes, the Klan, say the same thing.
Richards has also played for time. The hope is that the rage will die down, and that there will be a well-spring of sympathy for poor, put upon Mike. That's not a bad ploy. I have received tons of emails nationally in response to my column on "Richards, Blacks and the N Word," that alternately blasted me for hammering Richards, even though the point of the column was to slam blacks for the double standard in using the word while pounding whites that use it. Many went further and fawned empathy for Richards, and bashed the black patrons at the Laugh Factory for allegedly provoking downtrodden Mike. Even Mel Gibson (of all people) weighed in and expressed sympathy for him.
Richard's dodge of a bona fide offer to meet with community leaders makes his public pledge to make amends nothing more than PR fluff and opportunism. This evasion increases my suspicion that he has not accepted full responsibility for the racial furor and division he ignited with his racial rant.
I'll be very curious in the coming days to see just when, where, or more likely if, Richards actually puts his body where his mouth is and tells what and why he did what he did, and what he will do to promote racial healing. Or maybe he already did at his tour de force appearance on the Laugh Factory stage that ill-fated night.

WHEN DOES PERSISTENCE BECOME OBSESSION?????

this is just one of the many thoughts dancing thru my mind on any given day that makes me just think and I was curious on what everyone else out there thought about the subject, please post your comments and let a brother know what you think...when you first attempt or make up your mind to get in this industry at whatever level, the one piece of advice everyone receives is to be persistent, stick to your guns, never take no for an answer. but I see madd heads I know, really cool people who bust their butts and do the damn thing that never seem to get their break. some past their prime, some just didn't get they big break, some that just don't know what to do to get to that next level.so I ask all of you this one question,when does persistence become obsession???when is it that you have past the point of being able to truly make your dreams come true and you just cant let go. I see 35 damn near 40 year old emcees still goin to the studio and making hot tracks and still tryna get that deal that will take them over the top. cats that still tryna get their record company or whatever industry related company they have off the ground, still grinding but may be way past their time. but they are also past the point of no return and don't have anything else to go back to so they continue to grind, working 2 jobs to support their hobby or habit if you will.this business is addictive, the success and the climb to success is like a drug. being on stage with madd heads (whether its 100s or 1000s) screaming your name and singing your songs word for word is a high that cant be replicated by any drug. many artists have tried after the limelight has died and they turn to drugs and liquor but never recreate that high. the dream of success is also a high as well.when does persistence become an obsession, personally I have left the game at least 10 times and it keeps calling me back in. when do u throw in the towel and try something else many of us who are older now have families and grown man bills, but still have that love for the game and are addicted to it. that may be why many have compared the rap game to the crack game. there will always be dealers (record companies, major corporations, managers etc) peddling dreams of getting paid in full to the youth. more kids wanna be rappers or athletes than doctors or lawyers or want to go to college for that matter.sports isn't much different, master p with all his success is still trying every year to make it on a pro basketball team roster and look at all the athletes that desperately wanna be rappers or in this industry. they get all that paper to play a kids game, living many heads in the hood's dream but they still wanna be in this game.but what about those who haven't had that kind of success, working at the local gas station, supermarket or whatever still spending every awakening moment outside of their job chasing a dream. everyone must have dreams don't get me wrong and everyone should try their hardest to make that dream come true, but when its all said and done at what point does persistence become obession holla back at ya boy and let me know what you think

Newly Elected Muslim Lawmaker Under Fire: Decision to Take Oath on Koran Sparks Controversy

-- The first Muslim elected to Congress hasn't been sworn into office yet, but his act of allegiance has already been criticized by a conservative commentator. In a column posted Tuesday on the conservative website Townhall.com, Dennis Prager blasted Minnesota Democrat Keith Ellison's decision to take the oath of office Jan. 4 with his hand on a Quran, the Muslim holy book.

He should not be allowed to do so," Prager wrote, "not because of any American hostility to the Koran, but because the act undermines American culture."
He said Ellison, a convert from Catholicism, should swear on a Christian Bible -- which "America holds as its holiest book. … If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don't serve in Congress."
The post generated nearly 800 comments on Townhall.com and sparked a tempest in the conservative blogosphere. Many who posted comments called the United States a Christian country and said Muslims are beginning to gain too much influence. Others wrote about the separation of church and state and said the Constitution protects all religions.
Dave Colling, Ellison's spokesman, said he was unavailable for comment. Earlier, Ellison told the online Minnesota Monitor, "The Constitution guarantees for everyone to take the oath of office on whichever book they prefer. And that's what the freedom of religion is all about."
Colling said Ellison's office has received hundreds of "very bigoted and racist" e-mails and phone calls since Prager's column appeared. "The vast majority said, 'You should resign from office if you're not willing to use the book our country was founded on,' " Colling said.
"Requiring somebody to take an oath of office on a religious text that's not his" violates the Constitution, said Kevin Hasson, president of The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.
Members of the House of Representatives traditionally raise their right hands and are sworn in together on the floor of the chamber. The ritual sometimes seen as the swearing-in is actually a ceremonial photo op with the speaker of the House that usually involves a Bible.
"They can bring in whatever they want," says Fred Beuttler, deputy historian of the House.
Prager, who is Jewish, wrote that no Mormon elected official has "demanded to put his hand on the Book of Mormon." But Republican Sen. Gordon Smith of Oregon, carried a volume of Mormon scriptures that included the Bible and the Book of Mormon at his swearing-in ceremony in 1997.

In the early 90's there was a female rapper/spoken word poet/Black activist named Sister Souljah.
Most people know her for the song she did with Terminator X and Chuck D from Public Enemy called Terminator X - Buck whylin .
She made an album many people laughed off, but I thought it was amazing. It was called "The Hate That Hate Produced".
Her first single was called "Slavery is Back in Effect". The video was off the hook. In enacted a scenario where Black people were put back to work in plantations and moved to mass concentration camps.
She was hated by almost all the mainstream press. Only Phil Donahue gave her a fair platform to speak. Even Bill Clinton hated her.
She is a hero of mine on many levels, though I never agreed with everything she always said.
You thought this was about Kramer though? It is.
I saw her do lectures several times. She was and is an amazing, intelligent Black woman. One time when asked about the word nigger, she said something profound. Basiclaly, she said it did not matter if White people stopped calling Blacks niggers, because WE (Black people) would never stop using it. This she aserted was due to centuries of miseducation and lack of cultural clarity.
I grew up in the suburbs in the Bay. I got into a fair share of fights over the "n word". Thats how my dad raised me and thats how I raise my son and my daughter- to defend their racial and cultural dignity.
But most people who have called me nigger are Black. I don't care if they meant it in love, or hate...More Black people have called me nigger than anybody else.
Thats an actual fact. In fact, if I go to any ghetto in the Bay...I'll get called a nigger more times TODAY, by Blacks, than I did in my enire life by Whites.
But you thought this was about Kramer? It is.
Since Kramers obvious mental breakdown/rant, Black people from all over the country are banning together to "Stop the N Word".
Good luck with that.
Even Paul Mooney, the KING of using the word in comedy decided that he was going to stop. He calimed to be so shocked and upset. I respecfully suggest Mr. Mooney shut his mouth. I believe he is a liar. A LIAR.
He made millions using the word. So the real question is, how much money does it take to make Mooney stop using the n word. Who paid him to do it and why did they?
You see, Mr. Mooney comes from a generation where Black men were still hung, beaten, murdered, and lynched....He comes from an era where Black women were spat on and called that word just for trying to get a drink of water...Just to eat a sandwich...Just to read BOOK- they were called that word and humiliated and attacked.
But he claims now that it's because of Michael Richards he had an epiphany!!! Get the F!@# outta here.
I ain't buying it. Just like I aint buying all these so-called Civil Rights leaders shucking and dancing to meet with Michael Richards. Meanwhile, over in NY, Black men are getting killed by cops on their wedding day. Meanwhile, Black men in the bay are fying their brains on mushrooms and E pills. Meanwhile, I just walked out of DVI penitentiary and SAW with my own eyes the overcrowded jails with men of all races (but mostly Black and Brown)....But Kramer is where these so-called leaders run to????
The rise of N.W.A. was'nt enough? All the decades of everybody from Master P, 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Kid Rock, Non-Phixion, Necro and even Jennifer Lopez using the word gave nobody a clue about how rampant this word was being used???
Public Enemy addressed the issue with their LP in 1991. The Coup addressed it years before that. Tons of rappers and social activists have spoken out against it. But the media ignored them.
I'll tell you a story. A long time ago I interivewed pro-Black rap group X-Clan. They rapped about self empowerment and respect for women and promoted a lot of Kemetis (aka Egyptian) spirituality.
They also use the N word all the time on their albums and in interviews. I asked them why. I was told by Brother J and Professor X that the word would always be around. That you could never get rid of the word.
What puzzled me at the time was, how could they ask young Black people to call to new Gods, if they still called themselves niggers? How could you call them to a new spiritual plane, but still encourage them to use a term Black people never KNEW, until they were enslaved on the shores of North America? Sister Souljah knew the answer...She was right.
Najee Ali of Project Islamic H.O.P.E. is the only man who kept a steady pressure on the media and entertainment companies for their constant abuse and use of the word. A lot of people who laughed at him then, should align with him now.

Michael Richards is a red herring for these so-called Civil Rights leaders. He is a red herring reason people like Paul Mooney say despite the Watts Riots, the LA riots after OJ's aquittal, the centuries of Black men and women being killed in America etc., MICHAEL RICHARDS is the cancer we must rally against???? I don't think so. These times are filled with such fakeness. Black America is in shambles. And attacking Michael Richards won't fix it. Neither will any new rap songs.
Sister Souljah was right in 1990 and shes right now. The masses of Black people still use it, and still love the word.
What Marcus Garvey, Macolm X, Eliah Muhammad, Martin Luther King and many others said still rings true today. It does not matter what ANYBODY thinks of you. It only matters what you think of yoursef.
I just wanted to thank Michael Richards for helping Black America showcase it's hyppocrisy.
I mean, if it was'nt for him, we'd NEVER know how wrong it is to use the word. I mean, he taught us more than Malcolm, Martin, Rosa Parks, Dr. John Herik Clarke, Angela Davis, Public Enemy, PRT, Sister Souljah, Betty Shabazz and the Nation of Islam ever could. LOS ANGELES -- Bebe Moore Campbell, who penned several best-sellers including "Brothers and Sisters" and "What You Owe Me" as well as articles for The New York Times and The Washington Post, died Monday. She was 56.Campbell died at home in Los Angeles from complications due to brain cancer, said publicist Linda Wharton Boyd. She was diagnosed with the disease in February."My wife was a phenomenal woman who did it her way," husband Ellis Gordon Jr. said in a statement. "She loved her family and her career as a writer.Her books, most of which were fiction based on real-life stories, touched on racial and social divides while including the perspective of many ethnic groups.One of her first novels, "Your Blues Ain't Like Mine," was published in 1992 and spanned a 40-year period dealing with prejudice in the United States. Ced speaks on the Krammer racial rant (which I will address on a later date) but what got me goin was the lack of black leadership

Ced writes: "Now my question is where are the Black performers, comedians, writers and executives who should be voicing their displeasure with the kind of behavior that Michael Richards displayed Friday evening? When Mel Gibson 'performed' his Anti-Jewish rants, the Jewish Entertainment community was up in arms and front and center to call for Mel Gibson's head, yet, as of this writing, I've heard nothing from the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Russell Simmons, Robert Johnson, Bill Cosby or any other prominent Black. Where is our representation on this issue. So this is nothing new, nor does it surprise me but where are our leaders. Where are the black power brokers who will defend us, those trying to position themselves as our future activists, our leaders or today and tomorrow. Now Bill Cosby where are you now. I know who you feel about hip-hop and education or lack of education these days, and an assortment of other black issue effecting today's youth. But where are you now when we need you to stand up for us and check those and let them know this is not acceptable.

Like MJ, Jay Z, the Mike Jordan of recording, retired at the top of his game, although no one really believed Jigga was gone for good. The mic never seemed to gather any dust on it as Hova was guest appearing on everything he could. It was hard to tell he was retired as his voice filled mixtapes, the airwaves and cars riding by with the booming systems just as much he did before the retirement if not more. Then just barely 2 years later he returns, and if he did manage to put the mic down for a minute it didn’t show. Passion called him back and a need to show the new artists how it’s supposed to be done. The subject matter or topics discussed isn’t original or new, but even with the played out themes of gangstism, ghetto living and ballin’ outta control, J sells it better than most. While others are bragging Jigga makes it look so easy as he just flows and gets his grown man on at the same time.
“I’m young enough to know the right car to buy, yet old enough not to put rims on,” says J in 30 Something. “I don’t got the bright watch, I got the right watch. I don’t buy out the bar, I brought the night spot.”
Backed by the usual suspects, the knobtwistas include Just Blaze, Kanye West, Dr Dre, the Neptunes and guests appearances by Pharrell, Beyonce, and Coldplay's Chris Martin. Cant forget the voice of Flava Flav on the first single "Show Me What You Got" which samples s Public Enemy, or the Just Blaze produced title track which samples Rick James' "Super Freak". Even with the much noticed absence of longtime beatsmith Timberland who was busy bring back the sexy with Justin Timberlake, it's still an A-list cast of characters, and as always Jigga holds his own and lets you know its his world.
The problem of being the Mike Jordan of rap is the expectation. You are a victim of your own success. Jordan himself had sportscasters questioning if he still had it after a 25-point performance. Needless to say some ballers never see a 25-point performance in their career or that would be a great game for them. But this is MJ, if he isn’t dropping 50, averaging a triple double and at least 5 SportCenter plays of the day, making a poster out of his comp, it just wasn’t a good night for the kid. Same with Tiger Woods or the Williams sisters, if they are not blowing away the comp, they must have fell off or be having a bad day.
Well Jay lives up to the picture he painted with words of himself for us. While Kingdom Come is a tight album, it might not live up to the expectation of some and has some writers talking about how he just don’t have it anymore, and leaves others writers and fans alike waiting for his real comeback album to come. The problem with being the brightest star in the sky is continuing to be the brightest and outshine others. That said everything Jay does is an event, a 7 city, 17 hours tour or taking over 106 & Park, changing their wild out Wednesdays theme and top 10 countdown and turning the show to 106 & Jay. Performing 10 tracks from your 10 albums. Add that to a world tour, and the massive promotions even with the doubters, with an estimated 850,000 units moved, Jigga is scheduled to have to best first week sales of any artists in 2006. Not to mention the Jigga Man regained his number one spot on the Billboard charts.
Kingdom Come is quite possible Jay’s most personable album to date, he deals with issue from his relationship with Beyonce, rumors and past beefs "Lost Ones," f/ Chrisette Michelle and recounts horrors of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, taking lyrical shots at the Bush Administration and the failure of the American government to get help to the victims with NeYo on "Minority Report". Can’t forget the albums finale "Beach Chair", the track with Chris Martin, this pairing works incredibly well.
The older, more mature Hova is sure to satisfy fans he left waiting with his retirement. "…now I got black cards, good credit and such, baby boy, I'm all grown up."

Cingular Sounds presents: THE JAY Z HANGAR TOUR- Part II- The Review

Now let me reiterate, so you realize how serious this was. I don't do longs lines and I do not do gen pop anymore, haven't for years. But I wanted to experience this historical event as a fan. I stood in line for over 90 minutes in the cold and was on the floor, front stage center and shouted lyrics along with Jay and the 1000 plus standing room only fans til my voice was damn near sore.
Again this was history in the making and I wanted to be a part of it.
This was a concert at 6am in the morning. A never-before-done 17 hour, 7 city
tour with da ATL being the jump off.

After Atlanta, Hova performs in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and the grand finale in Las Vegas, flying by a BBJ, (Boeing Business Jet) totally tricked out 737 jet from gig to gig. The “never-been-done” tour will probably go down as one of the most creative and successful one-day concert tours in music history. The tour will also be available to watch from Cingular phones.

A pair of winners from each city will win the chance to travel with Jay-Z on his private jet to witness the remaining concerts on the scheduled tour. The winners will not have to worry about a change of clothes because Roc-A-Wear will supply them with a complete ROC outfit.

With DJ Green Latern on the one's and two's and his longtime man from Marcy, Memphis Bleek as his hype man, Jay ran thru a medley of his hits and a few treats from the new CD, including The Takeover, Kingdom Come, PSA, 30 Something, Jigga My Nigga, Hola Hovito, H To The Izzo and Big Pimpin, which I have to admit got the entire crowd extremely energetic. By that time everyone all totally forgot they couldn't feel their fingers and toes outside just 45 minutes earlier. Hova turn the hottest honey and hardest homeboy and hoodfella into a fan by this time with this set.

"Y'all niggas must've had some coffee!," Jigga told the crowd, "How y'all doing this? Oh, y'all aint go in the house, y'all comin straight from the club. No don't front some of you came straight from the club"

Wasting no time and going 15-20 minutes over his schedule time making the venues management a bit nervous, he went into Give It To Me, Show Me What You Got, spit a quick acapella 'to the haters.'
The crowd got even more amped and began shouting "Brooklyn", from Jay's reply to Jim Jones diss titled, Brooklyn High, where Jigga remixed Jones' joint, Ballin and changed the chorus to Brooklyn.

Then the beat dropped and Hov ended the show with Encore, and was out, jumped on his BBJ and headed to the Philly to perform and pick up 2 more fans to accompany him at the tours finale in Vegas.

Jay-Z also just completed his four-continent world tour, performing in some of the world's largest cities, including Paris, London, Sydney, Seoul and Cape Town. He was crowned a king in Nigeria and supplied water wells in African shanty towns. Now that Hovie's home he is handling his home turf.

Say what you want about Jay Z, but everything he does is an event, from doin a 17 hour, 7 city tour and then taking over 106 and Park to perform 10 songs, 1 each from his 10 albums instead of their daily countdown to promote the release of his latest musical offering Kingdom Come or having Michael (Let's Get Ready To Rumble) Buffer introduce him and having his jersey lifted to the rafters in Madison Square Garden during the taping of Fade To Black, having Nas come out in concert with him after their long running highly publicized beef or having Danica Patrick and Dale Ernhart Jr race through Monaco in the Show Me what You Got Video, who doin it bigger.

THE JAY Z HANGAR TOUR- the show before the show

I have a lot to say so I will break it up into 2-3 different entries, not to get to lengthy, and giving you the opportunity to read about what you want first and come to back to the rest later.

Part I- Outside Before The Show

Now before I start, as a writer I haven't stood outside on a long line just to get in for years. There was no guest or press list, just straight tickets, general admission giving out by industry folks
and the two local radio stations V-103 The Peoples Station and Hot 107.9.

The show was to start at 6am yes you heard me right 6am
the doors were suppose to open at 4am
my homegirl and fellow journalist Tai Saint Louis
and I rolled up about 3am -ish to beat the rush or so we thought,

We pull up to Center Stage on West Peachtree and you could see the line was already around the corner. Ok I haven't done the line thing in a minute and being still a little new to da A I didn't see anyone I knew on line so I head to the back to get a spot on the line while Tai parks the whip.

It had to be bout 39 ish degrees and dropping but being from New York I am no stranger to a little cold. U make sure you dress for it, a couple of t-shirts, jeans, a hoodie and boots and you good to go. A lot of ATLiens who weren't as used to be exposed to the elements for any length of time like this did come dressed for it. After about 30 minutes or so, the free promotional t-shirts given out by the radio stations and label promotion teams quickly became bandanas and scarves to block the wind.

Anyway I wanted the whole experience, cause this is history in the making, a 17 hour- 7 city tour, something never done before. It was just a job it was an experience, but ya boy is gonna do what he gotta do to get the story, ya heard!!!!!

Across the street from the venue looked like an something that should have been on episode of the BET titled BEEF: Radio Stations Gone Wild!

V 103 and Hot 107 in an effort to gain maximum exposure and vieing for corners and prime promotional space on surrounding poles, were trying their best to out do each other. Hot 107 seem to have the corner directly across the street on lock when the eager V 103 interns put a a banner from pole to pole directly in front, blocking Hot 107 from being seen across the street. Hot pulled unrolled a longer banner and got n the street and blocked the V 103 banner. The V 103 promotion vehicle hooked up the system and began blasting a Jay Z mix tape and Hot turned up the system in their promotion Magnum and they each continued to turn up their systems to out do the other until all we heard was loud noise until ATL's finest arrived after complaints.

Those on line including yours truly watched like we were watching a drama unfold on TV or in a movie as the only form of entertainment to take our minds off the temperature that decides its gonna drop a few more degrees each 10 minutes or so.

Then as usual you have those who arrived later tryna cut the line which cause more then a little friction, but luckily, security did their job but only after madd complaints from cold folks who had been waiting for what was seeming like forever.

Eventually the line moved, the first 1000 plus people got in and it was all good after that. Once the show began everyone heated up as Jigga man rocked the house. Many heads I heard talking among themselves leaving the venue and outside were not disappointed and even felt the wait in the cold was well worth it.

Then it was 7am to the Waffle House
8am and I was at my house
9am i was banging this out and
12 pm I was just plain out - cold in a coma like sleep
until the fone rang and then it was up and time to do it again

not stand out in the cold on no more lines

but back on the grind
with my mind on my money and
my money on my mind!

It Needs To Be CED: Why New York is Not Winning

What made New York, in terms of Hip-Hop, the place to be, was the abundance of talent and the stories that needed to be told to the masses. It wasn't the poverty or the ghetto life that separated New York from the world, it was the melting pot, the air, the uniqueness of the city that made it stand out. It was also the sights, the atmosphere, the grittiness of the city that made it a place that others either wanted to visit or stay far away from. Any way you looked at it, it was always a place that was the center of attraction.
And I'm not speaking only in terms of Hip-Hop or even music. We have the Broadway shows, Central Park, the Botanical Gardens, Coney Island, etc. I could list all the major attractions and still have more places and things that make this great city stand out. Malcolm X, the Civil Rights Movement and Gay and Lesbian protests. And let's not forget the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden and the New York Giants. See where I'm going with this? It will never be just one event or attraction that makes us so notable.
Wall Street, the Empire State Building and the financial district. King Kong. All in the Family, the Jeffersons, NYPD Blue and New York Undercover. Union Square, the Tunnel, Studio 54 and the Palladium. Sylvia’s, Copeland’s and Amy Ruth’s. Damn, this could go on for days…….
But the real reason for me writing this is the ‘rumor’ (or is it truth) that New York Hip-Hop is dead, wack, stale, doesn’t matter anymore. Why does it take Jay-Z or Nas to make NY relevant? Where are the new cats who were supposed to take off where Jay left off? Remember when Public Enemy, KRS-ONE, Das Efx, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap, Slick Rick and every other successful New York Hip-Hop artist was hot and doing it? Remember when MC Hammer, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Uncle Luke, Common and any other emcee outside of NY wanted to be accepted by New York? What happened to those days?
Now we all have theories. It’s time for other regions, people were sick of the NY sound, cats outside the region didn’t care about being accepted by NY. Maybe we are the victims of our own arrogance. Maybe there were too many hot NY emcees and the competition with each other allowed everyone else to sneak in and take it from us. Doesn’t matter, we are officially wack right now and there is only one thing that will put us back on top again! And no, it’s not the Jay-Z/Nas collaboration we are anticipating. NY is missing a great big factor that was the VERY reason why New York is envied, yet targeted, even by terrorists. We have something that is built in us, especially if we are born here, others gain once they move here and others elsewhere try to duplicate it with their own twist. Once we get this back, WE WILL WIN and be BACK ON TOP! It’s one simple word and all the great emcees, past, current and hopefully, future heads has had and/or have. Are you ready? SWAGGER!!!
Let me repeat that word for the people who didn’t read it correctly the first time, SWAGGER. That’s what we are missing! I am challenging the new ‘breed’ of emcees to start incorporating that in the way they do things. I don’t feel that from any of the new, what I call, ‘mentionables’. Papoose, Jae Millz, Maino, etc. Granted, all are talented, some even lyrical, but I don’t ‘feel’ the ‘swaggerness’ from them that I feel from a 50 Cent, a Ludacris, a T.I. when those guys do ANYTHING and I’m not just talking about them rapping. They all have an air about them that makes you take notice to them, something this new crop is lacking. Once those young bucks realize that the swagger will make them hot, they will get it.
And on another note, New York Hip-Hop was always known for its diversity and grittiness. I had a conversation with Uncle Luke yesterday and he stated that you can’t know the streets if you are not in the streets. I agree completely, every one is trying to be Puff and Jay and anyone else who is able to afford the ‘bling’ lifestyle, yet they don’t want to work to get there. And another thing, STOP TRYING TO MAKE MUSIC LIKE THE OTHER HOT REGIONS AT THE TIME! We were hot because we went to the beat of our own drum, but nowadays, if Atlanta is hot, niggas from NY are trying to be like Atlanta. When are we gonna say fuck everybody and let’s take the lead once again? In closing, cause I’ve CED a lot, I am from New York, I live in New York, I will always represent New York, but no one likes being on a losing team. Right now we are the New York Knicks. Several years ago, ok, many years ago (during the Charles Oakley, Xavier McDaniels, Jon Starks days), whenever a basketball team came into Madison Square Garden, they knew they were in for a fight and a loss, now, they come into the Garden knowing it will be easy. NY Hip-Hop right now is the New York Knicks. Regardless of who is coaching, the team STILL SUCKS.
We need to get the dynasty going again, like The New York Yankees. No one was beating the Yankees in the seventies, they went through a slump and who is beating them now (In terms of constantly being one of the better teams)? We need to be the New York Yankees, not the New York Knicks, but more importantly, we need to take the game back! We need to be the leaders! We need to be the trend setters again! We need to get down and dirty once more to prove that we can get dirty and come out on top again. But until that happens, we may as well stop claiming where we’re from cause it won’t matter. It’s not what we did yesterday, it’s what we are doing tomorrow!

Lil' Kim Leaves Prison In A Rolls

Brooklyn rapper Lil' Kim' left prison 6am Monday July 3rd after serving nearly 10 months for perjury and, in typical fashion, she did so in style.
Wearing a low-cut white top and flashy sunglasses, the 30-year-old rap star born Kimberly Jones clutched a bouquet of flowers as she greeted fans before stepping into a silver Rolls Royce Phantom.
The Queen Bee, formerly known as Federal inmate No. 56198-054, has been in jail since September after being convicted of perjury in testimony to a federal grand jury about a shooting outside a New York radio station, Hot 97. She was released more than two months early for good behavior.
"Today is a joyous day for me and my family. I am extremely grateful and happy to be home," Kim tells Heavy Rotation Mag in a statement.
"Many special thanks go out to my fans, who were critical in helping me get through these past 10 months. I am looking forward to adjusting back to my normal life and getting back to work," Jones added.
With her own crew of multiple cameramen videotaping her release for the BET reality show, Lil' Kim: Countdown to Lockdown, the luxury sedan rolled slowly into a parking lot across the street.
One fan lit a lighter in tribute of her first single from her latest album 'Put ya Lighters Up'.
The car parked and one of star's bulky bodyguard warned pushy photographers that he would start "tappin' chins" if they didn't back up.
The Grammy-winning rapper fixed her makeup and then made another appearance outside the car to again wave to her fans.
"I love you," she told them.
At 6:15, she rolled out of the parking lot and was gone.
During the February 2001 incident that led to her conviction, gunfire broke out after Lil' Kim's entourage encountered rap act Capone-N-Noreaga and Foxy Brown outside the radio station.
Kim testified she did not notice two of her close friends, Suif Jackson and Damion Butler, at the scene, but was discredited after the men later pleaded guilty to gun charges
The 12 months-and-a-day sentence was lenient compared to the 33 months that prosecutors sought in the high-profile case, which shed light on complex rivalries in the hip-hop world.
Kim will transition into a 30-day house-arrest after her release from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia.
Her publicist said Kim would spend some time with family and friends before going back to work.
"Kim had a lot of time to be able to think and she has definitely been the type of person to turn a negative situation into a positive one," said Tracy Nguyen.
Lil' Kim reportedly was heading to her North Jersey home to enjoy a feast of barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese, and salmon pasta salad.

Exonerated Death Row Inmate Awarded $2.25 Million

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (May 5) - A federal jury on Friday awarded $2.25 million to a Virginia man who claimed a police investigator fabricated a rape and murder confession that sent him to death row.
Earl Washington Jr., who came within nine days of being executed, had sued the estate of the state police investigator, Curtis Reese Wilmore, who died in 1994. Jurors awarded Washington damages upon finding that Wilmore deliberately fabricated evidence that led to his conviction and death sentence.
"I feel great - and happy," a smiling Washington said after the verdict.
Washington spent nearly 18 years in prison. He was pardoned in 2000 by then-Gov. Jim Gilmore after sophisticated DNA testing, unavailable at the time of the crime, linked a convicted rapist to the murder.
William G. Broaddus, an attorney for the Wilmore estate, declined to comment after the verdict, other than to say he is considering an appeal.
Washington's attorneys claimed that Wilmore fed their client, who is mildly retarded, specific details that he used in his false confession to the slaying in 1982 of Rebecca Lynn Williams in Culpeper, Va.
For example, Washington said he left a bloodstained shirt in a dresser drawer in a back bedroom of the victim's home, his attorneys noted. Police never revealed the information publicly.
During the trial, a psychologist testified that investigators could easily manipulate Washington because of his mental deficit.
Washington's attorney, Peter Neufeld, said after the decision that the case boiled down to "two men in a room with the door closed. When they walk out, there's a confession with all kinds of nonpublished details."
Said Neufeld: "We learn years later that one of the men could not have possibly have known those details. Therefore, they had to come from the other fellow in this case, Special Agent Curtis Reese Wilmore."
Wilmore's lawyers acknowledged Washington's innocence but argued that Wilmore did not fabricate the confession.
Washington is now a maintenance worker in Virginia Beach.
Neufeld said Washington's attorneys will attempt get the state to pay the damages against Wilmore's estate.
"When he engaged in misconduct he did it as an agent of the commonwealth," Neufeld said, adding that the attorney general's office paid powerhouse law firm McGuireWoods to defend Wilmore's estate.
A telephone message The Associated Press left Friday with the attorney general's office was not immediately returned.
